Giving something back
Riverlane is building a programme of initiatives to support our local communities, with a focus on having a positive impact on people and the planet via volunteering and education outreach. Read more about some of these early initiatives, all led by individuals within the company.
Riverlane's Bertha Swirles QEC workshop: Empowering Women
This annual workshop aims to upskill and empower women to explore careers in quantum computing.
By providing education, mentorship and networking opportunities, this workshop not only enhances individual capabilities, but also contributes to the broader goal to achieve gender parity in the quantum industry.
With expert-led sessions, hands-on experience, and a team hackathon challenge, this workshop aims to equip participants with some of the core skills and knowledge to work in the quantum industry.
The next session will take place in September 2026.
Paid volunteering time
We are taking small but meaningful steps to increase involvement, visibility and impact in our local community.
Introduced in July 2026, employees can take an optional paid day per quarter to volunteer for any charity of community organisation of their choice, either individually or as part of a group.
Cambridge Pride
Riverlane is a regular sponsor of Cambridge Pride, a joyous celebration of love, visibility, community and solidarity.
Support for these initiatives is more important than ever, and in 2026 we increased our support to fund British Sign Language interpreters, and rounded up a group of Riverlane volunteers to help out on the day. The event is entirely free, inclusive to all, and completely volunteer-run.
Huge credit to Riverlane's Gordon Bateman, Chair of Cambridge Pride, who, every year with his team, does an incredible job of organising such a positive community event.
